New Mexico Healthy Soil Working Group

Supporting Farmers, Ranchers & Land Managers in Soil Stewardship

The New Mexico Healthy Soil Working Group formed with the goal to significantly accelerate soil health stewardship in the state by addressing the challenges of inadequate education, lack of financial incentives and prevailing institutional barriers. The Group brought together a broad coalition of organizations to pass the NM Healthy Soil Act in 2019. The NM Department of Agriculture is tasked with executing the Act which includes comprehensive soil health education and a user-friendly grant program. They are branching out into technical assistance and consulting for land stewards.
