Connecting Newer Farmers with Mentors & Resources

MOFGA is offering the Maine Farm Resilience Program. This two-year program provides individualized support to advanced-beginning farmers with 5-9 years experience who are grappling with questions of scaling up, accessing and adapting to new markets, managing risk, innovation and diversification, and achieving long-term farm viability. The Farm Resilience Program, which took seven farms in its first cohort, matches participants with experienced mentors. Stipends totaling $3,500 are provided.

Soil Centric's Pro Tip

Shout out to Maine which has the nation’s second-highest percentage of beginning farmers; more than a third of its producers having less than 10 years of experience. The Pine Tree state has been identified as an "organic hotspot" by the Organic Trade Association and Penn State. Being an Organic Hotspot increases median household income by over $2,000 while lowering a county’s poverty rate. This means newer, younger farmers can find and create support networks more readily. Long-established venerable organizations like MOFGA are there to help you grow!
