Restore California is a public-private collaboration with the state (Air Resources Board & Department of Food and Agriculture) that will generate funds to pay farmers and ranchers to transition to climate-friendly practices. Participating restaurants up and down the state add a 1% charge to the bill and that money goes directly into supporting cover cropping, composting and other measures that increase soil carbon. Farmers will be paid $10 per ton of carbon removed from the atmosphere.
Soil Centric's Pro Tip
There's a consumer pledge on the site where you can declare your intention to seek out restaurants that are participating in the program. It takes just seconds to pledge and the more people who do, the more restaurants that will participate in Restore California. The more restaurants creating capital, the more money can go directly to farmers so they can implement practices that create healthy, carbon-rich soil.
